José-Ramón Blanco, MD, PhD received his medical degree at the University of Zaragoza, after that he did his specialty in Internal Medicine. Since 2002 he joined to the Department of Infectious Diseases at Hospital San Pedro in Logroño, where he is a Consultant.
He is the responsible of the HIV, Inflammation and Ageing Unit. His major research interest is focused on ageing as a consequence of HIV infection. He is also interested in the inflammatory mechanism in animal models of liver injury (i.e. non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and ageing, with emphasis on the role of CCR5 antagonist.
During the last 15 years he has been the PI or Co-Investigator of several research projects related to HIV infection and liver damage. He has produced more than 100 Peer-Reviewed publications in national and international journals. He is Member of the Spanish HIV Cohort, national reviewer of research projects, and member of different national and international scientific societies.
